Osher Center for Integrative Medicine
In existence since 1998, the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine has become a premier integrative health resource for the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. The first program of its kind to offer fully developed programs in research, education and patient care, the Osher Center is meeting the needs of patients who seek a healing-oriented approach to healthcare. To date, Osher Center has received two Center of Excellence Awards from the National Institute of Health; developed required and elective curricula for health professional students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and physical therapy; and conducted over 20,000 patient visits. Our Approach to Care~ At the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, we offer a dynamic approach to health, healing and prevention by integrating modern medicine with established health practices from around the world. Unlike the rushed, revolving-door feel of hospital medicine, our patients spend an average of 90 minutes in their first visit with a doctor. We assess your individual needs and listen to your concerns and goals for well-being. Our mission is to support your health and healing by offering: Exceptional Care Our licensed and credentialed practitioners have extensive skill, training and experience. The UCSF Medical Center is one of the nation’s top 10 premier hospitals (for over ten consecutive years) and best in the Bay Area, in US News & World Report’s annual survey. Communication We practice relationship-centered care in which the patient and practitioner form a partnership to help promote healing. Our practitioners carefully listen to your concerns and work with you to develop a healing plan specific to your needs. Collaboration Our practitioners work with you and with each other to determine the best treatment programs for you. When appropriate, our practitioners also collaborate closely with clinicians from other departments and institutions. Personal Sustainability We focus on prevention, health maintenance and early intervention. We provide you with information, exercises and self-care techniques to empower you to take control of your own health and support lifelong, whole-person healing. We are conveniently located at the UCSF Mount Zion Campus in San Francisco (map and directions). As an interdisciplinary center that is a part of UCSF, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine is the premiere place where integrative medicine comes together on three important levels: research, education, and patient care. The Osher Building is a 5-floor, 48,000 square foot building that the UCSF Osher Center shares with the UCSF Department of General and Internal Medicine. The UCSF Osher Center occupies the top three floors, an estimated 24,000 square feet. The building design creates a healing environment that is in harmony with the philosophy of integrative medicine. The environment reflects openness to diverse healing systems, contributes to the well being of patients, practitioners, and staff and provides a supportive environment for research and education.
