VSA - Vibrational Sound Association

The VSA is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. The VSA is dedicated to the continued evolution of the Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) modality or "vibrational sound massage". The continual input of teacher, practitioner and client contribute to a partnership in furthering the goals of the VSA. The Vibrational Sound Association also acknowledges the importance of the tools of the method, Singing Bowls, Bells, Tingshas, Chimes and Gongs. The VSA seeks to further the use of these ancient tools in a modern and structured modality that is an ordered and efficient relaxation system. The Vibrational Sound Therapy relies on specifically engineered Therapeutic Singing Bowls that provide stress relief through extreme relaxation provided during the session. VST works through the actual contact of the singing bowls and the human body. The Modality is constantly growing and changing with input from our community of practitioners, instructors and clients. Using this information the method becomes a conscious living entity based on our therapeutic relationships. The Vibrational Sound Therapy instruction is provided through a set of workshops. Classes are scheduled in advance and are available both domestically and abroad. Training ranges from two-day basic instruction courses to full week long certification courses to multiple installment instructors training. This class is approved for CEU's for massage therapists from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). Our 6 day certification class qualifies for 42 hours of credit. Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) combines powerful vibration and tones to induce an immediate relaxed state. The induction of the sound waves directly into the body, along with soothing ambient tones, is such a strong treatment that clients report effects ranging from a meditative state to deep relaxation. By placing the “therapeutic” singing bowls directly on the body, and using correct techniques, a practitioner engages with their client both physically, and aurally. Also known as vibrational sound massage. The techniques associated with VST have many advantages over traditional massage. One major comfort barrier that prevents many people from receiving a traditional massage is fear of being touched by a stranger. In the VST method, the client remains fully clothed and is never touched directly by the practitioner. In fact, because the singing bowl is doing most of the physical work, contact is kept to minimum. This does not diminish the connection between client, and practitioner because spiritual intimacy is maintained through the sound and the vibration transmitted through the bowl. Also, VST is much less physically intrusive than traditional hands-on massage, and won’t leave the client feeling sore. Founded by Jeff Howard with over a decade of experience with singing bowls and traveling the world learning about sound therapy in many cultures including Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand, USA, and China. Jeff created the Vibrational Sound Association(VSA) to offer the first ever professional training with singing bowls that is now used in Spas, Hospitals, Massage Therapy Clinics, Reiki Practices and many other organizations, The VSA is dedicated to the continued evolution of the Vibrational Sound Massage(VSM) modality. VSM is a method of professionally using singing bowls and other instruments on and around the body for therapy and relaxation. The VSA seeks to further the use of these ancient tools in a professional modern and structured modality that is an efficient relaxation and therapy system. VSM is the only "professional" singing bowl therapy course available today. This is a secular course with no need for any specific spiritual or religious beliefs and relies on proven methods of using sound and vibration for therapy. Therapeutic singing bowls are bowls designed specifically for Vibrational Sound Therapy (Sound Massage), and differ in many aspects from traditional Tibetan bowls. The idea behind crafting a refined instrument for both pure tone, and strong vibration came after working with thousands of traditional bowls, some designed as utensils for eating, storage and many other purposes. These sometimes very primitive singing bowls of antiquity are truly unique from bowl to bowl. A more precise instrument was needed for a more effective treatment. Creating a bowl for a standardized system required both knowledge of traditional bowls as well as modern science, and engineering.
